The Research Project
Note: The following is intended to illustrate the content and format of a short annotated bibliography. Type your bibliography with standard page margins, using the correct MLA Works Cited format for each item (consult your textbooks for specific examples). Alphabetize entries as you would on a Works Cited page, and place annotations after each source entry.
Shows the benefits of TM for psychiatric patients with schizophrenia, neurosis, personality disorders, and alcohol and drug problems: decreased anxiety and tension; decreased overactive or impulsive behavior; improved sleep patterns (decreased awakenings per night, improved quality of sleep, etc.). Very good bibliography.
Gaines, Maris. "Claims of Spontaneous Healing." Skepticism
Takes a strong stand against what it calls "anecdotal" and "pseudoscientific" claims of spontaneous healing, particularly in cancer cases. Good source of opposition arguments against my thesis.
A Healing Place. 29 February 2000 <http://www.ahealingplace.org/>.
A "pop-psych" Web site which has a little bit of helpful information, along with discussion boards with some useful personal-experience accounts. Interesting, but I'm not sure if I'll end up using anything from this source.
McGill, Charles M. The Realm of Consciousness: a Theory
A book about the problem of consciousness, advocating a view in which the phenomenon is natural but permanently mysterious to us. May be useful in providing background for my argument.
Raymond, Jonathan. "Mind Over Matter: the Healing Mind."
An article which strongly advocates the the theory of the mind as a healer. Good source of statistics and arguments against my opposition.
